We decided to come here for my Aunt's birthday after finding out there was a 2 hour wait at Cooper's Hawk (my family usually goes there for lunch on weekends, so we had no idea it would be that busy on a weekday, but it is the last week of the year..) Any way, parking spaces around the restaurant were very limited so we parked far. There was no wait so we were seated right away, but it took about 5-7 minutes before our server stopped by our table and said "sorry, I'll be right with you." She wasn't as attentive as you would like your server to be throughout our stay. We told her we would be ordering an entrée to go and she said "tell me later, it will take about 5-7 minutes to prepare..." She wasn't even attentive with filling our glasses of water. Then, I think he was a manager? Evan? He attended to our table a lot due to the matter that I had an allergy to seafood. Jodie, our server, said she would check out the ingredients in our appetizers and entrées, but nothing appeared out of the blue.. until 30 minutes after we ordered and Evan came back and told me that there was fish sauce already mixed into my mango sauce in my entrée. He did discount my entrée. But we waited another 15 minutes for our entrées to come. The food looked amazing in color and smelled great. It was all delicious, but the time it took, when the restaurant was not packed was apparently not worth it. The atmosphere of the restaurant is modern and I love the hanging lanterns, but it's super cold in the building! Every time someone opens the door, a huge gush of cold air flows in and even if there door isn't open, there is a breeze! Not sure if I will be recommending nor coming back any time soon. Very displeased this time around.

If I would have written a review after my first experience here, I would have given Wok 'n Fire 4 stars. This last visit left a bad taste in my mouth. The waiter was pretty terrible. We ordered drinks. I ordered a Drunken Pomegranate Ginger Ale and it was pretty bad. It was overly sweet and tasted flat. When the waiter finally came back, I told him. He offered to add soda water to give it carbonation, but I was afraid that would just make it taste watered down. He then offered to make me a different, so I ordered a Dragon's Milk. It was much better! For appetizers, we ordered soups. I enjoyed my Hot and Sour Soup. I was disappointed in my boyfriend's Spinach Egg Drop Soup that for some reason has no spinach in it. I asked the wiater about the missing spinach and he told me there is no spinach in Egg Drop Soup. I then asked when it is called "SPINACH Egg Drop Soup" then. That was our whole reason for trying it. It sounded different. Our noodle entree the first time was out of this world. The Signature Sushi Roll we ordered was just okay. The second time we returned, all the dishes were lacking. I had to add the red chili paste to all the dishes and I never add spice to my dishes. Even those that had the "spicy" sign next to them in the menu. Everything was lacking in flavor this time around. The Pad See Ewe was bland, so I added soy sauce. The Curry Wok Dish was bland and definitely not spicy. The Korean BBQ Dish was also bland. It did not come with much meat and the chunks of meat were cut huge. Too big to use with chopsticks. I had to first cut the chunk into three pieces before they could be eaten with chopsticks. I asked my waiter about a green bean dish, which was amazing our first time here. It was our major factor in us returning. He didn't know what we were talking about. Finally we found "Wrinkled Green Beans" under sides. They were okay this time, but not as amazing as I remembered them. The service took forever and our waiter was missing most the time. We kept having to ask bus boys and other wait staff when we wanted something, including the check. Overall, our dinner service took about two hours (and 2 people were an hour late, so I was there 3 hours). So why didn't I complain more when the manager stopped by? We were celebrating my grandma's birthday and I didn't want to cause a scene. Although, I did respond that the food was "okay..." instead of my usual "great" which I think should have tipped her off. That is why I gave them two stars instead of one. Well that and because no one got food poisoning and it is a cute atmosphere. And the birthday banana fritters they give you were pretty good! It is always disappointing when restaurants start out great and go downhill so quickly.

Love it here! Great quality sushi rolls at a reasonable price. Wednesdays from 4-9pm is 50% off specialty rolls...which is truly a fantastic deal. It's really nice inside. The service is really good. All the staff have been super helpful and knowledgeable about the menu. It's super clean inside. Highly recommended.

The food and service is very decent, food came out in a decent time. The management came out, greeted and made sure we're happy with the meal.

I came here for lunch with my mom. The waiter was extra helpful and attentive to us. The food was delicious! Soo many choices on sushi rolls! We started out with ck lettuce wrap, mini rolls( soooo good! Cooked), pang beef curry, shrimp pad Thai, and tilapia!!! Every thing was tasteful. We will be back!

I was recently at this establishment with my father and even though I must say I really enjoyed the food, i was grossed out at what seemed like a manager walking around with open toed sandals. I don't think this sanitary nor professional. I literally lost my apatite when seen I saw that. It seemed like a place that would have had higher standards.

Pretty good for asian food. Its hard to find good asian fusion only thing is its a little pricey for the servings you get. Has a great variety from sushi, rice dishes, noodles, beef chicken scallops tofu shrimp and cocktails

We had the Malaysian Mai Tai, Unagi Nigiri, Bangkok Chicken fried rice and Red Spider sushi roll. All of these were really good. Service was really good too and so were the food portions. Would recommend this place to anyone.

Atmosphere is really nice. Kid friendly. There is a bad body odor smell throughout parts of the restaurant. The bathrooms also have a funky smell. We ordered sushi off the specials menu and the regular menu. The sushi was good. The service was good.

Great sushi. I mean GREAT sushi. The drinks are average at best, and overpriced. But the sushi is very original - not your typical "here's a california roll and some tuna" type place.

What an improvement over Nozumi! Such a nice, upscale-looking place that isn't snotty and actually has the food to back up the attitude. I went and got carry-out the other night because I was craving sushi and it is the closest to my home (hooray!) I ordered the Yum Yun roll, and two others, I can't remember :(. They were very good! I walked in and ordered with one of the nice hostesses up front and they both spoke to me while I was waiting for my food, which was nice. They offered me water and a seat if I needed it, excellent customer service! Please keep these two young ladies on staff (I don't remember their names, I'm sorry, but they were so nice!) I will keep coming back! I have eaten before on the patio outside and it was lovely!

We had dinner w/ a friend here and enjoyed the meal. We all basically had sushi and were pleased at the quality and flavor. They do it right here. The stirfry, although we didn't have it, looked/sounded delicious as well. The staff was very friendly and super accommodating to my friend who has food allergies and also spot-on with drinks and water refills. The restaurant itself is very well done. Great location and the decor is really cool and "authentic." I can't wait to come back here and have dinner again.

Not too shabby. I came here with a couple of work buddies for food and gossip. Being a trendy Asian-inspired restaurant in South Barrington, I expected some high prices. I wasn't starving, but wanted a nibble. So I ordered a $7 shrimp tempura roll. The roll was decent, but it was far from the best that I've had. It was smaller than the rolls that I'm used to, especially for $7. And the rice was not wrapped tightly. It was just okay. In the end, I enjoyed the company of my friends more than the food. The atmosphere is gorgeous, though. Lots of twinkling paper lanterns on the ceiling, and a cool dragon bas-relief on the wall. I'd probably come here again for company and drinks, but not for a significant meal.

I eat here 2 days a week for lunch. Service, food presentation and quality are spot-on. This is the BEST of the 3 locations and their take on fusion sushi is outstanding. Can't wait to have an opportunity to have dinner here.

Went here last night for date night and without a doubt I will be back. We arrived at about 8pm without a reservation (risky I know) and were given a wait time of 20 minutes for the lounge (completely respectable wait time) or we could sit right away in the bar area or on the patio. We opted for the patio and were greeted by the manager just after sitting who brought us our water. Just a few minutes later our waitress came and took our drink and dinner order. We were enjoying some strawberry martinis while waiting for our dinner when one of the chefs came out and offered us a sushi sample. A short time later our food arrived and it was delicious! Portion size was big. We could have split just one dish and everything to so good. The service was excellent as well and I can not wait to go back!

Very good sushi. Got the Inky, Papa's Choice, and one other. Everything was fresh and ready to go, and the presentation was spectacular. Wish I had gotten a picture. Inky is definitely the best! Would return!!

  • Michele B.

Was taken to dinner here so it would not have been cool to complain, BUT not sure that I would return. The waiter had about as much personality as my glass of water! I asked for recommendations and he said "um don't know" and then pointed to a few items. The menu said "get ready for a kick" stating that marked items were spicy. NOT. Food took forever, spinach egg drop soup did not have any spinach. Dishes were warm not hot when they arrived. Meh

Love this restaurant! It is definitely a favorite among my friends and I. The ambiance is really breathtaking with truly magical art work and decor. A statue of Buddha greets you in the entrance and the dining area is filled with gorgeous paper lanterns and a giant dragon on the back wall. The staff and management are all attentive and friendly every time I dine there. I am definitely a sushi noob, but the food is delicious and my friends and I love it. Excellent choice for lunch and/or dinner, while being very reasonably priced.

We love it here ! Always fantastic food always fast service and they have groupons once and a while! We go maybe twice a month here and magos are our favorites!!!!! Happy hour half off apps on the bar from 4-7 and after 9 something's we just order a bunch of those , everything is good priced and I can't tell u my favorite dish because ever time I go I say now this one is my new favorite ! Don't miss this place!

Went to Wok 'n Fire with some co-workers for lunch. Walking into the restaurant was pretty cool, there were lots of decorative statues and other elements in the restaurant. In the main dining area there are a bunch of small lanterns that sway as the air moves. The ambiance for this place is very nice. We were seated quickly and the waitress was nice. Ordered Szechuan Tilapia and a Salmon Maki. Szechuan Tilapia came with large sides as well and was very filling. However I felt that the flavors of the food was very Americanized. The garlic spinach was good, however the Tilapia tasted like they just put teriyaki sauce on it and called it a day. The Salmon make had extremely thin cuts of fish. I've been to many other sushi places before and never had a cut of fish this thin. The avocado in the roll was not good. If you are looking to satisfy your cravings for sushi or authentic Chinese food I would go elsewhere.

The Arboretum has another great dining option... and I cannot wait to go back. A group of us girls came here for some Sushi and Drinks and we were all more than pleased. Ambiance is really neat and pretty... low lighting, tons of Chinese lanterns on the ceiling. The place isn't overly huge either, but they definitely laid out the room well to get as many people in there as possible without overcrowding the place. Waiter was attentive and had fun joking around with us when it came to shots (I was being a baby). He also offered separate checks from the beginning which is super nice cause I hate to ask. Food was GREAT, as well as the drinks. Typical sushi prices.. My Spicy Crunch Roll had about 10 pieces for $13.00 and they were the BIG pieces so I left pretty full. My miso soup ran around $3.95 and it was a really big cup and had plenty of tofu in it, they do not skimp on that at all. He also asked us what kind of soy sauce we prefer, less sodium or regular. We never had to wait long for refills, food, etc. It was an all-around great experience. Side note for Yelp though... this is definitely not located in Schaumburg, it is South Barrington. I have no idea why its listed in the Burg....

Loved this place the moment it opened. The food is incredible. Environment is sweet. But on more recent visits it just keeps going downhill. There was that time where 3 of us were unknowingly served their "drunken" ginger ales. I'm not sure what was worse... Being served them, being charged $7 apiece for them, no apology for the miscue on the server's part, or the fact that we were each given a refill (make that 2 drunken ginger ales apiece) and none of us felt anything from said alcohol. And then there is the music. Oh, the music. Last two times in here there has been this atrocious 80s music playing. Loudly. Sounds like the Time Life CDs you buy on TV when you have insomnia. Doesn't fit the vibe of the place at all and makes it really challenging to carry on a serious conversation with a colleague. My trips have always been at lunchtime. Perhaps dinner is better. I'm not sure I'll find out.

  • Patricia W.

Humm good, but with all the restaurants at the Arboretum of South Barrington there is a tendency for there to be a surge of diners during the dinner hour, especially on Fridays; so if you really want to experience the best try to arrive before the crowd or do lunch. Great service, good/fresh foods, but stay away from the entry door tables during the extreme cold weather or you will freeze.

This place is fantastic! We ordered about 7 rolls, and they were all wonderful. Our server was super friendly and knowledgable about the menu, and she came back a few times to make sure we enjoyed each roll. The atmosphere was great, we went in kind of late on a weeknight so there weren't many people there but it had a cool vibe. It would be a great place to go for drinks! I had a chocolate martini and it was excellent! We will certainly be back to Wok n Fire!

Food is amazing and they were extremely attentive to our children. Cheap cocktails for happy hour and all around good time. The only thing I would tell them to do is open the other doors towards the parking lot, I'm sure allot of people overlook this place because it almost looks closed. I would highly recommend. I had the sechwan chicken(spicey and fucking awesome) and the rainbow roll with brown rice which I love they allow you to substitute for. Good shit

Have yet to have a bad meal here. They are incredibly consistent with quality and service. The atmosphere feels more like a hip club than a fusion restaurant, but it's fun. Have only had the bowls because they are so good I am always craving them. Eventually I hope to try the sushi.

Food is decent and definitely above average but the service was terrible one our enters came out cold as ice took them 20 min to replace the dish. Took way too long to get refills... Just a terribly under average performance.

Sushi rolls aren't big, they're a bit pricey (like everything else on the menu), but boy are they good! They offer classic choices like the California roll to gourmet ones with lots of different ingredients. There are so many to choose from in addition to the entrees on the menu. Unless you're an extremely picky eater, you will find something that tickles your fancy. Lettuce wraps as an appetizer is a win since it comes with lots of fillings. Dessert is also tasty. The mango cheesecake is exploding with mango flavor AND mango chunks! Apple cobbler thing is as good as it always is. Every item that comes out is presented very nicely. It's almost so nice that you don't want to touch your food and ruin the work of art. Staff is friendly and helpful. Ambiance in the restaurant is pleasant with soft lights, lanterns, dragon decorations, and a giant Buddha at the front door. Wok and Roll has it going strong and I would love to come back sometime.

Good food, but very overpriced sushi and small portion-sizes. Management was also rude, however didn't have to wait long for our meals. My daughter' sand husband's meal were played together and we didn't care for that. Maybe they could have asked first?

I've been here twice and each time I was seated with Thalia and she's so sweet and down to earth. She's very helpful and attentive. Food is very good. I do recommend the Szechwan steak and the Thai beef salad!

Acceptable Asian food with themed Asian decor. It has night club mood lighting and atmosphere. Their portions are small for their prices and they dish up Americanized versions of a variety of cuisines. My kids ordered fried chicken dumplings which came on a bed of French fries. They were still hungry when we left and so was I. I ordered their beef noodle pho soup. The portion was smaller than the children's soup at the local Vietnamese place we frequent and the price was higher than a regular soup. But the broth was very good. The sushi rolls are small and a California roll shouldn't cost $7. I think the best part was the hot tea I ordered which came in a Japanese iron pot and was decent quality gen mai cha - loose leaf. She brought it after it had steeped for a couple minutes, so it tasted better on the second infusion...

  • Xan X.

Definitely go during happy hour and sit in the bar. You can't beat the prices that way. The maki rolls are pretty good compared to most chain sushi places, but beware of the rolls that involve cream cheese - way too much cream cheese. The drinks are always delicious, and the traditional Maki portions are huge.

My wife and I decided to try this place out after a recommendation from a friend. This was our first dinner out that my wife could enjoy an adult beverage (just had our second daughter), so we were pretty excited. We are avid sushi lovers and have tried many places in the area. First, let me state that the decor in this place is pretty awesome. I like how the bar/dining area is separated by a big abacus...pretty creative design move. The huge Buddha when you walk in is pretty impressive as is the gold dragon in the dining area. We started off with two saki bombs, which took us by surprise as we're used to cold saki....they use warm. Different but good! I tried a bottle of their pear infused saki, which was pretty decent, while my wife had a beer. For apps, we went with what I would call tuna nachos....good stuff. We also tried the calamari which was crisp, but the sauce it came with tasted more like ketchup with a little bit of spice, rather than a legit cocktail sauce. Still decent nonetheless. We then order the 10pc sashimi, red spider and a spicy tuna roll. They were good...not bad, but not really memorable. Just standard rolls, but seemed to be smaller than our regular sushi place. We felt the presentation was pretty substandard and the cuts of sashimi to be a tad conservative with prices how they are. However, it was very fresh. Since we were still hungry, we ordered two bowls of miso and a yum yun roll. Miso was ok...lots of tofu which I like, but it seemed to be only warm, not really hot which would have been nice. The yum yun roll was very tasty...definitely my favorite roll. We didn't stay for dessert, so I can't comment on that. So why 3 stars? While the food was good, and the ambiance was pretty awesome, we felt the overall experience for the price didn't line up. Our bill after tip was $150, for what I felt should have been a $100 meal. We weren't "wowed" by the food though it was enjoyable. Would I recommend this place.....maybe, but we likely won't be coming back.

I really enjoy meeting friends here for happy hour. Great food specials (although I have only had sushi here). Really neat decor. Usually enjoy sitting at the bar. Highly recommended. Also has great lunch specials...2 sushi rolls & soup/salad for ~$12.

mmmmm... this is one of my husband and my favorite places for our date nights out. The sushi is amazing and I can't help but to always order the double pan fried noodle entree with chicken. So Yum!! Happy that we finally moved closer to this location and can take advantage of the carry out service!

I decided to try this restaurant out since I purchased a $30 groupon. Just to keep it short and simple, our waiter realized that I was not over the top about my meal he brought it to the manager's attention. They credited me back the meal and we were able to order something different. That's what I call service - paying attention to your customers. Excellent service all around. Thank you will come back to his location!

My husband and I went for our date night here and we weren't disappointed. The ambiance is great with tasteful decors. The crowd is smart and sophisticated. The food is average and the staff is very friendly. Our server took the time to speak to us and spend time to tell us about the menu in detail (unlike so many other places!). It's also conveniently located next to a movie theatre, so makes for a perfect date evening. I prefer the food at other similar places like Stir Crazy or Big Bowl, but it could just be what i ordered. Will definitely check it out again if I'm in the area.

Sushi was chewey because of the seaweed wraps. Tasted OK but it really left me disappointed. Drinks were really tasty, as was the crab rangoon. Service felt rushed at first to get our order, but then didn't see anyone until after we finished eating. I would have mentioned the chewy rolls had someone checked on us. Might go back for some wok meals and drinks, but not sushi

Was very disappointed as I love their Addison location. Food was not the same. The exact dishes we would order from the Addison location was completely different. Service was good but ambiance was very cold in temp and feel. Swanky Asian ambiance tho.

Visited here for the first time on a Tuesday. Our waitress was great, she was very helpful and explained any questions we had about the dishes and different noodle types. And checked back often. We started with the crab rangoon & it was the best rangoon appetizer i've ever had. Next we sampled the St. Charles Roll and Tequila Jalapeno (very spicy for me) rolls, Garlic edamame and the Banana sesame fritter with ice cream! Great place for a date night.

There was a Groupon available for Wok n Fire a while ago and we finally went this past weekend. Even though my husband and I were a little uneasy about straying from our usual sushi spot we are glad we did. This place is AMAZING. The food, atmosphere, and service are all top notch. Pricing is similar to most sushi places and yet the quality is leagues above anything I've had since moving to Illinois in 2010. We are really looking forward to trying out more of the menu. Easily our new favorite restaurant.

Don't go if you eat Sushi and Asian cuisine regularly. It will leave bad taste in your mouth. Sushi pieces are small and the meat is thin. The salmon/tuna roll has the meat on top of the roll, the meat was a thin sliced meat. We ordered the salmon roll and other rolls, but we didn't order tuna roll. When we question the tuna roll on our table, the waitress insisted that was Salmon roll. The waitress can't tell the difference between Tuna and Salmon meat or she thought that she could just fool us. We had to call the manager to determine on what type of fish was it. The manager did get the correct Salmon roll. We also ordered Pad Thai. It is a little bit too sweet. We ordered Chicken Pad Thai, we can only see less than five small pieces of chicken, but they gave us a lot of 1-inch long green onion pieces (not even split 1-inch long, it was whole pieces) and some cold deep fried small tofu pieces on top of Pad Thai. We ordered three mochi for desert, mango, strawberry and chocolate, they are not much flavor to them, but very sweet. I will not suggest this restaurant to anyone.

This place now resides in the old Nozumi space. They've completed redesigned the interior, and it looks amazing. I came here with a friend and we went on a Saturday night without a reservation, so there was a 25-30 min wait for a table, or we could sit in the bar, which was first come first serve, and had immediate openings. We opted to eat right away. We both ordered the same cocktail and two sushi rolls to share. The drink was good and the food was good. Service was also good. What more can I ask for from a restaurant? I even took home some of my roll and even my mom liked it! She's Japanese so she doesn't usually care for Americanized sushi rolls, but we usually have the same taste in food, and I never order sushi rolls with cream cheese. Don't get me wrong, I love cream cheese.... on bagels, in cheesecake..... just not in sushi rolls. I hope to return here again!!

  • Kevin W.

I've been here twice and won't be going a third. It's really no better than your local Asian takeout at about twice the price. The drinks were served in water glasses which was odd and it was super loud. With so many places to choose from, this place is just not on my list. Nozumi was so much better and much more original.

  • Niraj D.

Was worried about whether we would like this place because restaurants with such broad menus don't typically do specific things very well. Was also concerned because we're vegetarian and the veg options at some Asian places still taste a little fishy. But was nicely surprised. We got the lettuce wraps with tofu, pad siew with tofu and veggie lovers roll. It was all very good. Additionally, the service was great. I had indicated on our OpenTable reservation that it was our anniversary, so Brian the restaurant manager came over multiple times to see how we were doing. He then gave us champagne and a dessert on the house to help celebrate. Finally, the busboy was amazing...the fastest I have ever seen! Suffice to say, we'll be heading back. We loved the sushi place that used to be in this space, so it's nice to have another Asian place to go to.

First time visitors on a busy Saturday night. Since we didn't have reservation, we sat in the lounge. Fun, city vibe . Classy decor. Very fine service. Sadly, the good news ends there. We ordered Vietnamese Spring rolls - mostly lettuce, completely tasteless. Husband ordered Sweet&Spicy Beef - somewhat pleasant flavor, but fried rice was tasteless. I ordered Panang Curry with Chicken - lovely presentation, but sadly, tasteless. Really? How do you make Thai food tasteless? Even the Thai Iced tea was pretty tasteless. Good restaurants Must have good Food. This one falls down there.

Let's just say I'm happy I had a Groupon for this place. The environment is great, lots of cool decorations, outside seating as well. In terms of food, it's fairly average but above average in price. I wish you could get what you pay for, but I could probably get this for half the cost at a Chinese restaurant. The service was great in the beginning, knowledgeable waiter that knew the menu, but as the night went along got progressively slower. We had the Jalapeño Tuna Roll as an appetizer, and was served 6 relatively small rolls for $12. Which is pretty ridiculous considering it's a tuna "mix" not Ahi or Yellowfin. We had some hot food as well that came out super-fast, and tasted of fast-food quality. If you're in the area and absolutely NEED to have sushi or sit-down Chinese/Japanese, and have a groupon then give it a shot. However, based on what we experienced here...will not be returning.

We had great service and incredible food! The most notable part of our experience is the Colombian busboy..... By far the fastest busboy we have ever seen in our life! He was like the shadow of the servers- truly incredible!!! You can usually tell how well the employees like their job by evaluating the busboys. If this is any indication- the staff and the service were on par! Overall great experience in a suburban restaurant... And seriously impressed by this busboy!!!

The sushi was awesome, the decor is as well. My boyfriend and got two rolls (the dragon and spicy california roll) then both decided to each get a noodle dish (after 2 drinks and the sushi we didn't even need them!) I got the Kung Pao and he got the double pan fry noodles. They warn you on the menu that this is spicy but it was overwhelming, i'd go for another one next time. His was not good but we just didn't like the crispy noodles. A manager came over (a female, i'm not sure of her name) and could tell he didn't like it and offered a new dish noodle dish with wide crispy noodles and it was amazing!! A big thank you goes to her. Our server was not good at all though, that's the -1 star, my dish was so spicy and i didn't have a drink, I had to wave her down and she just was not attentive at all. But overall it was good and I definitely recommend it!

Went there with a groupon. It's great that they allow the combination of a groupon with the lunch special. We got the Asian Cesar salad with calamari. The salad wasn't anything special but it tasted good. With the calamari, there was a good amount and it was very tasty. Lunch price was good because you spend about the same at most restaurants for just calamari. We also had the sushi sampler with egg drop soup. The soup was different than the usual one I've had. This version had some egg, corn, veggie, and sesame oil. It tasted good, just different. Everything was good, just different flavors cuz their own twist on it. Lunch special prices are good. Not sure if I would return during dinner hours with regular menu prices. Great service too! Our waitress was very attentive and helpful.

My daughter was visiting from school and we wanted to try a new place after we picked her up at the airport. We were seated right away. The waitress was slow getting our order and the appetizer was served at the same time as the sushi. We had to ask the waitress about our order. The food was excellent and the portions were good sized.

Been here twice and both times were delish. I had sushi and it was perfect, not too much rice. Then I had the thai red curry and it was awesome, not too spicy, but flavorful. I'd go back again.

absolutely amazing addition to the arboretum :) my family & I used to go to the 1 in st. charles but this is so much closer to home. came here tonight for our 4th anniversary, service is outstanding & food is just incredible. ambiance is great, well lit as well as private. I've never been disappointed. I suggest having any of their sushi, my favorites are: shrimp tempura, california & phili rolls. had the crispy crunchy roll - to die for!! dine here & you won't be disappointed!

I've been here three times so far, and I have to say I will not be going back. The service is wonderful and the staff is nice and friendly. However the food is sub par. The noodle dishes are oozing in grease and/or sauce, and taste like a Greek diner put them together. I've had various sushi there. The sushi is not well mixed in flavor, and is overpowered by too much sauce and what's with the overloading of sirachi sauce as well??? There is also some disgusting "crab mix" in their sushi made with fake crab meat, and it ruins the flavor of the maki rolls. You cannot taste the fish because they overpower the sushi rolls with too much mayo and some disgusting sauces that taste horrible. I swear I almost barfed when I put a piece in my mouth, and gave it to my husband, who will eat anything. I also had the eel, and it was very rubbery. The miso was super salty and luke warm and I couldn't eat it, so they sent me a wilted side salad in the most horrible dressing ever. Their sauces taste horrible. I find the only edible thing there were the french fries. I never had so many bad dishes in one restaurant. I'm sorry Wok n' fire, but the food is terrible. Noodles and Company can do noodle dishes much better, and that's sad. The sushi is some of the worst sushi I ever had with the exception of Sushi Station (that was disgusting). Only giving two stars because the service has been great each time.

This is going to be pretty significant admittance of truth... I actually liked their Sushi. My girlfriend has been trying to get me to eat Sushi for almost 2 years now, and I've been forced to try some here or there, but never enjoyed myself or wanted to try a second piece. This place however, finally hit right into my wheelhouse of awesomeness. I tried their Tequila Jalpeno roll. It had many things I loved wrapped up in a Sushi roll. I ate almost a whole roll by myself, and given the opportunity, I would get it again. In addition to the sushi, their drinks were all really good and fun. We had a large group in here for a birthday party, and we had 2-3 people from the wait staff handling any and all of our concerns. They were a real treat. It just so happened that some people in our party were friends with the management from her roll at the previous restaurant she worked, so she treated the whole table to a variety of desserts that were all VERY good. I am a huge sweets guy, so dessert is by far my favorite course. I tried 3 different kinds of cakes, and a few other sweet treats. Everyone here did an excellent job and I was truly impressed!

The food here is very good and the sushi is done well. While there is nothing here that wows me there is nothing that prevents me from coming back. Wok n' Fire is a reliable place to go to and the food quality is very consistent.

The decor of the restaruant is good. The food was just average. We got 2 rolls and and a noodle dish. All the dishes were ok in taste. It was really loud at the restaraunt. The service was good. For the price they charge and quality of food i probably wont be back there anytime soon.

This Asian fusion restaurant is located in the Arboretum in South Barrington and is where the old Nozumi was. I went here a few weeks back for my company's Christmas party and had made the comment that I recognized that it was the old Nozumi to which the bartender replied " our sushi is a million times better, trust me". I thought to myself GREAT! I adore sushi ( as one can probably tell by my reviews). As I was waiting for my other coworkers to join us I asked the bartender what he would recommend as a specialty drink, based upon what I liked he suggested a ginger whiskey with their homemade ginger ale. I was slightly disappointed after I took the first sip as it was flat and I was expecting fizzy but I guess thats personal preference. When we were seated in the private room it was close to what seemed like 90 degrees in there, of course we asked them to turn down the heat within minutes it plummeted down to frigged so I was pretty uncomfortable during the entire meal as it fluctuated between tropical and arctic Ok now down to whats important, THE FOOD. The servers where attentive and nice and described precisely how the lunch menu worked. They directed us to the array of appetizers that they had placed out for us buffet style. There was an assortment of apps ( mini egg rolls, calamari, and crab rangoon) all which were as expected. My boyfriend had ordered the three sushi roll lunch and I placed my order of Lar Nar noodles and asked for it to be spicy. Most of the food came out all at once which was nice for a larger group. I was excited to dig into my dish and was immediately hit with a mouth full of salt but at least the spice level was decent. It was pretty darn salty not inedible but not to my liking at all. I did not return it because I know that my boss really likes that place so I kept on chugging along....My boyfriend also not trying to be rude finished his plate as well but later told me it was some of the worst sushi he's ever eaten. His exact words were "it's was similar to jewel sushi", now that's bad. After everyone was wrapping up we were brought out a pre picked dessert which was delightful! This was the only thing that I truly enjoyed from this restaurant. We got the sesame banana fritter and it was a little bite of heaven. Overall I did not like Wok n' Fire, I took a glance at the prices and for the taste of any of the dishes you are getting ripped off. You're basically paying for the decor of the restaurant (which is nice). Wok n' Fire is just meh....I will not be returning nor would I recommend it.

Jamison Ginger ale, J Roll, and a St. Charles Roll. The food top notch. Delicious. Fresh sushi. I want another Jamison Ginger ale. Now please. The decor was like nothing I have ever seen before. It was beautiful. The lighting changed color. It was unreal. My server was awesome! She knew the menu very well and suggested this drink for me. I loved every second of this place, from the food, the decor, the service, the atmosphere. My boyfriend dislikes sushi very much, and they had several options for the non sushi lover. I am going back every weekend. Absolutely awesome!!!

My husband and I went here tonight because my sister told us about their Friday evening "happy hour" from 4pm-7pm. The happy hour includes half off appetizers and traditional maki rolls. When we arrived and were seated in the main dining area it was almost 6:30pm so we inquired as to whether or not we could still enjoy the happy hours prices. Our server informed us that the happy hour pricing only applies to those seated in the "lounge" (bar) area, so they graciously re-seated us so we could take advantage of the 50% discount. The restaurant was pretty crowded, but at the time we went we were able to be seated immediately without a reservation, and even re-seated without delay. The interior decor is very "hip" and beautiful. A large Buddha statue greets you at the entrance and there is a general Buddha motif throughout. The gently blinking lanterns hanging from the ceiling are lovely. The restaurant is very pretty to look at. However, the music and ambiance in general were a little louder than I like, if not too overwhelming. The service was AMAZING. Beside so kindly re-seating us, they were also efficient in bringing us our food, making sure we had plenty of water (with a cucumber slice at the bottom!), cleaning up our mess, and generally looking after us. EVERYONE we encountered was very friendly, and not just our server in particular. Most of my four stars is dedicated to the phenomenal service we received. If you take away the attractive atmosphere and the stellar service, you are only left with the food. Relatively speaking, I would have to say the food was the weakest part of our experience. We came to Wok 'n Fire because I had a craving for sushi, so our meal was exclusively sushi (plus some crab rangoon my husband ordered). The sushi was pretty good, but not the best I've ever had. The consistency of the rice was just okay and I found a lot of our food seemed really salty. Also, I know fresh fish is not easy to find in Chicagoland, but the fish definitely had a "fishy" taste to it. I am a seafood lover so this is not a deal-breaker, but truly fresh fish does not have that sort of flavor, and even in the Chicago area I have had better. With the 50% off deal I thought the food was worth it, and although it was by no means bad food, I would be hard pressed to pay full price for it. Also I think the crab rangoon was about $8 at normal cost, but they were like tiny "fun-sized" crab rangoon. I would have been mad to pay more than I did for it. It was also filled with really hot, goopy cream cheese. My husband liked it, I thought it was meh. I'm not a crab rangoon lover normally, so it might be worth it to you. We got a slice of mango cheesecake for dessert that was just under $7. Quite pricey, but really yummy if you're into paying for restaurant dessert. In short, I loved the atmosphere and am very grateful for the incredible, friendly service, but the sushi we had tonight was comparable to some of the cheaper sushi joints, as well as being a bit too salty besides, so next time I have a sudden sushi craving I'll probably just stick to one of my old standbys.

Cold food always taints my ratings. Sometimes the taint is just too over powering! They spent a ton of money on decorating this place. The management, servers and helpers buzz around at a dizzying pace- delivering food and clearing plates with freakish efficiency. Now onto the food.....the fried rice that I ordered (with a "not worth it" $2 upcharge vs the brown rice) as my side with the Hong Kong steak was cold. Not just "sat on the plate cold" but just came out of the refrigerator food factory bag cold. The toppings on my steak; shrooms, onions and peppers were so cold that they sauce was congealed. I choose not to send it back because we were heading to a movie an were pressed for time. The server noticed that we did not eat most of the food and asked if we would like to take it home. The "no" response was noted. This place feels like a nicely decorated, well staffed PF Changs - yet the food lacks taste and temperature. I'd skip this place, go to city and have food that is cooked well- not assembled cold

Be ready to wait if you go at a typical dinner time. I got there just before the rush and was seated immediately in the bar area (by choice). This is a very nice looking place with plenty of TVs in the bar area...better than the Addison Wok 'n Fire. Our waitress was really helpful and attentive. She took time to describe everything and to go over the specials. We stuck with sushi and weren't disappointed. It wasn't the greatest ever, but was good quality. The Inky roll is tasty. They talk up their homemade Ginger Ale. I had a sip of my gf's mixed drink and was not impressed. Bathrooms are very clean and pleasant. I can't stand when restaurants have nasty bathrooms. Wok 'n Fire is top notch in this category. Overall, the service is good, the food is decent, but the prices are very high for what it is. The prices outpace those of much higher end sushi places. For two with 2 drinks and not really enough sushi to fill you up, it was $80. I did enjoy it there though. They have different specials each night of the week, so maybe I will try them again on a night where the price won't sting my butt.

I can't give a good review to any restaurant that sees an Asian family with kids and chooses to give worst corner table at the restaurant every time and makes excuses for other available tables. Outside of that food is okay and prices are slightly high but nothing out of ordinary for good ambience. But, for south Asians I will not recommend this place

The decor and atmosphere of the restaurant was decent and our server was good but the food was nothing special. I didn't know if I was at a chain restaurant but it definitely felt like one. The miso soup was so salty I can't take my ring off and the cucumber cooler cocktail I had was too sweet. I've been really into ordering cocktails with cucumber lately as they are popping up on so many menus. Usually they are light and refreshing. This was syrupy and artificial tasting. The rolls we got were ok but nothing special. I will say that my mom who never eats sushi and wouldn't try anything raw really liked it and wants to go back. I on the other hand won't be making a second visit. We had the Godzilla roll, the Dragon roll and the South Barrington Roll as well as the Malaysian satay. Not normally what I would order when going out for sushi but as I said we needed cooked fish to make mom happy. Everything was very run of the mill, like Cheesecake Factory's version of Asian food. The chicken for the satay was cooked perfectly but the peanut sauce tasted like it came from a jar. Three stars for a happy mom, 2 stars for the food.

Wow! This new addition to The Arboretum is awesome!! Beautiful decor, delicious and innovative menu offerings, and the FRESHEST sushi I've ever had! My wife and I went on opening weekend and were amazed at how good the food was and how knowledgeable their staff is for being brand new! Definitely a place to check out and you will quickly become a regular here if you like Asian food and sushi. Also, they have amazing happy hour deals almost every night of the week. 1/2 off appetizers and traditional sushi rolls....how can you go wrong?!?

Finally a great Asian restaurant WITH sushi near my house! I used to drive all the way to St. Charles to eat at Wok n Fire - now there is one in my neck of the woods! Amazing, fresh and creative sushi options for ANYONE to enjoy. The ambiance, the service, the food - it's the total package here. Calamari, potstickers and Tuna Poke are my picks for appetizers. Hard to pick a favorite entree, there are so many! But what I can say is that there is something for everyone. Traditional asian noodle dishes (if you love Pad Thai, they have the best), even a filet mignon and salmon for those who may not be in the mood for a full Asian experience or sushi. Can't forget about the unique cocktails, great beer and wine selection - this is the place when you are looking to please everyone!

Brought two of our kids here on Sunday for lunch. Food was excellent and would have given five stars but our waitress was over the top fake friendly and spoke in an annoying sing songy tone of voice. Would appreciate more professional and "sincerely" friendly server.

To start, we have visited this location for lunch, and totally enjoyed the meal and service was great. Today....well, I have to say I have never thought about leaving a restaurant before I have even had my meal....and I have never experienced service that was so below par it was not even understandable! We visited with two of our son's for sushi...we ordered a larger order of sushi and sashimi along with teriyaki steak for one of my son's, a few drinks and water. Once we received the water and drinks our waitress attended to several other tables and it took her 30 minutes to come back for more water! Many other tables were seated...attended to and received their meals and were where still waiting after 1 hour. Our waitress was at every table but ours and it almost seemed she was avoiding us. Finally we waved over another woman who was serving meals and seems to possibly be a manager or asst. manager. My husband explained how we hadn't seen the waitress, food was still not served and we wondered how much longer would we have to wait as other table who showed up after us were already served? This woman was offensive in her response...she was indignant and acted very put out that we wondered where our meal was. I have NEVER had a manager in the food service or customer service business act like it was the customer who had the problem. She raced away to see about the food...brought back an appetizer we didn't order as a "peace offering" and said it would be just a little bit for our order.....My husband told her that if we didn't have it shortly we'd be leaving! She got a pitcher of water and came by every few minutes to fill up the water glasses, even if we didn't drink any....and then the meal arrived. The food was good and flavorful but, by this time it was hard to enjoy it when you were so upset by the situation. The original waitress came by and now it was 1hr and 15min.....our waitress didn't see us for this long and thought to stop by now! After we were done they asked if we wanted dessert....seriously.....we said no.....my husband was so upset he could not even respond. If you've ever had a not so great experience and you tell a manager....usually they would ask what happened, be accepting of what the patron had to say and do what they could to rectify the situation. We felt that the manager was not good at problem solving or resolution of a negative situation. We are still unclear where the break down was.....waitress to sushi staff.....waitress, sushi staff and then manager not aware of the seriously long wait we had.....either way this employee/manager team....didn't work as a team it was disappointing....it was unbelievable and it was upsetting. The manager decided to reduce the bill by 50 percent.....we didn't know this until we looked at the bill. She didn't come back and say that they were sorry for the mix up....or that they hoped we had a good meal in the end and wanted to give us a discount.....we didn't ask or expect this but, it was beyond crazy that they dropped the bill and walked away....and said nothing! We will not return again....it was good sushi but because of the service and lack of manager leadership.....we will write this one off as a dud.....and they get no stars....I'd give negative if I could.

This is my favorite sushi restaurant and favorite overall restaurant. I have never had of their dishes/rolls that I did not love. The people that work at Wok 'n Fire are also wonderful. The only area that they could improve is that their drinks are inconsistent. I always order the same martini and it's really hit or miss with their bartenders.

We came here with my family for my birthday and really enjoyed ourselves. Everyone's food tasted great and the service was good too. I appreciated that it was child friendly. In fact, my 4 year old wasn't interested in any of the menu items even though he loves Asian cuisine... The manager heard him saying this and had the chef make him a grilled cheese! We'll be coming here again.

Food is rally good here and the service is consistently well above average, even though our favorite waitress, Taylor, no longer works there. :( The best deals can be found going there for 'happy hour' - all their appetizers and traditional rolls are half off!

Went today for the happy hour with a party of 6, was told if we wanted to sit together it would be 30 minute wait, that's fine, bar was half full. Outside was wide open, but they said they would not honor the happy hour specials. We said they honored last year , but she would not now. So we left amd spent our 200 dollars at georgois. Great service.

First time at Wok n Fire and we were very impressed. The service was very attentive and offered helpful suggestions. Food was delivered promptly and every dish was to our liking. We started with the lettuce chicken wrap appetizer. This was almost a meal in itself. Appropriate portions of chicken, fried rice noodles and julienned scallions and carrots allowed us to make 5 wraps. Yum! I had the lunch sushi sampler. The miso soup was well balanced with tofu and seaweed. All elements of the sushi sampler were excellent: California roll, spicy tuna roll and nigiri: salmon, tuna, shrimp. All very fresh. My girlfriend had the orange chicken with brown rice. The chicken was moist and tender and fried to a sweet and mildly crunchy finish with a hint of spice and not too much orange. I would probably go with the white rice or veggie fried option instead of the brown rice. Overall, a great experience. We will definitely go again. Four stars instead of five due to the fact that it is a fast-casual chain restaurant.

Pretty cool on the inside in terms of décor. Our waitress hurt her hand and our table was for unattended for a while but the comp us a lot of food. I hope see gets better. The food here is pretty good, spice level is good for those that like spicy.

In search of gluten free Asian food? Take a hard swerve south and go to the PF Changs in Woodfield Mall instead. I found this place on the Find Me Gluten Free app and was psyched to see I had another option in the area. I mean, they even had fried rice! But I picked up food on a Saturday night and was super disappointed. The ginger chicken stir fry was alright but the fried rice was flavorless and gross; it didn't even taste like fried rice. I paid just as much as I would have at PF Changs, yet the variety of options was substantially less and the quality of the food was significantly lower. The decor seemed modern, but just stepping up to the hostess stand to get my takeout order I could barely hear anything over the music. Located in the Arboretum, it seemed like this place was trying to be cool and hip but with different food than the traditional American or Italian nearby. Identity crisis? Maybe. Because it sure wasn't Asian. Wok 'n Fire, I appreciate the effort, but let's have more follow through now please. Gluten free options are only great if they're edible. I would highly doubt the regular dishes as well given how simple the items were that I ordered, so just in general, steer clear.

First off, there is an enormous Buddha statue as you enter the restaurant. That warrants a star or 2 right there. Secondly, the sushi is pretty good. I like the Thai Kick and the Mexican rolls. They use the ingredients that you would most likely associate with those respective cuisines. It's not the best, and it's not the worst, but it gets the job done if you have a sushi craving and you're in the area. Thirdly, the parking is horrible. The whole parking lot for the Arboretum is horrible. Whoever designed the parking lot there must have had quite the sense of humor.

I visited the South Barrington location of Wok 'n Fire on Friday night and have to say that I'm a little disappointed in a few things. The food was good - we had the Crab Rangoons appetizer, the St Charles Roll, and the Inky Roll - and our waitress was really nice. Some other aspects, however, I would change. For one, I was FREEZING. So much so that I had to leave my button-down, long winter coat on the entire time. And it wasn't just me - at all the tables surrounding ours, patrons had their coats on too. Our table was directly down from the entrance hallway and every time the door opened, a frigid gust of wind would hit our table. Every time. They tried to remedy this with a small space heater, but it didn't work. It was really hard for me to enjoy my meal with my coat and scarf on. Wok 'n Fire also offered a few drink specials on Friday. At first I ordered their white sangria, but, unfortunately, it just tasted like cheap wine. I switched it out for a mango margarita that was better - but way too much sweet and sour mix. Overall, I would love to return - I would just do it during the warmer months.

I was craving sushi, but my fiance is not a sushi fan. After searching for a place near us online that would satisfy us both, we came across Wok 'n Fire. I'm glad we did! The service was great and both the sushi and stir fry were excellent! My only complaint would be that it's a little on the pricey side, but you are eating quality food in a a very upscale area, so I think it's justified. (3 sushi rolls + kung pow chicken + 2 beers + 2 mixed drinks = $82 + tip)

Second time going to a Wok n Fire. This one was defiently a lot better then the Addison location. The drinks are intersting. I really enjoyed their homemade ginger ale + whiskey combos. We had a few plates of sushi. All were good. The scorpion is the one that is a must have. Their fried dumpplings are good too. reasonable prices too.

This is a great place and I have been here multiple times with family. Sorta looks like a typical PF Changs but I like the friendly service and great menu selections. Prices are reasonable too. Definitely one of my best pics in the South Barrington area for dinner. If you are visiting South Barrington's Arboretum this place is definitely worth checking out.

YAY! One of my newest favorite pan Asian restaurants. I've only tried a few of the items from here, but each of the items were a 5/5. The beef fried rice is excellent and very flavorful. I've also had the orange chicken which was crispy and delicious (definitely try it if you love orange chicken!) and the kung pao chicken, which was equally good. I've also tried the grilled wasabi salmon which I'd highly recommend. It was a thin filet cooked perfectly with a slightly crispy crust. It's accompanied with a small portion of lightly sautéed garlic spinach. It's a perfect meal if you want to eat light and healthy. I've dined in twice and both times the food came out quickly and I was greeted by who I assumed to be the restaurant manager. I will be returning and recommending to friends!

Went for lunch and was not busy on a Monday. Tofu Pad Thai was too dry and not enough fish sauce. Chef needs to decide which version of Pad Thai to go with....either with a sticky fish sauce or a tomato base sauce. Tofu pieces were the right size but not crispy enough. My coworker had the ahi tuna salad that had a store bought dressing. The tuna looked good with seared edges. Restaurant made ginger ale but needed more sharp ginger notes.

Cool ambiance, but cramped dining area. I was counting how many times someone ran into our table with their hip (it was only twice) -sushi was good but expensive -alcoholic iced teas were yummy -food overall was yummy -service was great if i do come back here, i'm coming back for their happy hour, 1/2 regular maki rolls

This is my 3rd visit here to eat with my husband. This place has become one of our favorites. Below are my reviews on some recent dishes that we've tried: Spicy Shanghai noodles- The veggies are fresh, chicken is tender and it wasn't too spicy. I really like it but one thing they could do improve on is not to go overboard with the sauce. Overall, the dish was too saucy and it was overpowering the dish, all the noodles was drench in that stuff. My advice would be to go less on that since the whole dish since it was very well flavored. The Spicy Tuna- my favorite maki of the night with big chunk of fish and nice mayo saucing on top. The Fantasy- this roll is drier with no sauce so depends on your preference to sushi which one you will like. Lunch combo of these two maki are $13. They also gave us one bowl of complimentary hot and sour soup. The soup could be more sour. It was too sweet and salty and did not have enough eggs and ingredients. It didn't taste as authentic but it was free after all so we went with it. Over all, service is great here. They are very courteous and friendly, will check in often and refilled your glasses. I would recommend it here as a nice place for dinner for date night. There's low lighting with hanging paper lanterns that kind of create a romantic atmosphere (almost). Oh, and check on Groupon, they sometimes have deals here that you can buy. Last time I saw, there was a $15 for $30 deal.

Great menu with decent wine list and fresh sushi. Enjoy our time when we are there. There is a diverse group of customers so you have families with small kids, couples, girls night out groups, etc. There's also a mix of non Asians and Asians so you know they cater to everyone. Liked that Mondays are half price wine by the bottle.

Superb sushi and cocktails up in this joint! I went with the family and we enjoyed a number of their options. We got 3 rolls, 4 cocktails, and 1 entree. The Specialty Maki Trio was a great deal. You get 3 rolls of your choice at a pretty good discount. We got the inky, rainbow, and tunagi rolls, all of which were very tasty and looked beautiful. Their cocktails were large and strong, and overall the prices on everything were very fair. Dessert was also a winner with the apple crisp and chocolate cake. The staff was extremely attentive as well.

Admittedly, I have never really been curious about this place or its offerings. Not sure why. Just never was on the short list of places but I am glad I did! My BF and I joined my friend and her husband for midweek dinner. Given the miles between the two of us, we chose this a the meetup spot. Before arriving, I decided to check out the website to have a general idea of what was in store. Lots of sushi along with noodles and rice dishes. I also noticed there were happy hour specials offered in the lounge/bar area. When we arrived, they were already seated in the lounge having drinks. Bingo! This opened up the opportunity for 50% maki rolls and $5 cocktails. Our waiter, Evan, was attentive and upbeat. Hamachi Roll - 4 stars Tequila Jalepeno Roll - 4.5 stars Inky Roll - 5 stars!! *** The star of the night. Sounds like way too much going on but it is amazing. Las Vegas Roll - 3.5 stars ** not as good as most LV rolls Wok Tossed dish/Steak Basil - 3 stars ** rice, peppers and meat. Basic. I was underwhelmed and would not order it again.

Excellent service and excellent food! Thai curry noodle dish was excellent! ! The Mai thai was simply perfect in all the right ways! We had the chicken satays, enough for two to share. This place is an absolute must when in the Hoffman Estates / South Barrington area. PS they have a gluten free menu too!!
